About the club
At Romsey Town YFC (formerly Tadburn) we pride ourselves in being the only youth football club in Romsey providing an equal opportunity for boys and girls who wish to play organised football at both recreational and competitive levels.
We currently offer Soccer school for our very youngest players (4 to 7 year olds) and youth teams for players as young as 6 through to 18 year olds.
Most age groups have a number of teams. Traditionally we have a Panthers, a Cougars and then a variety of other big cats. Players emerging from Soccer school and wishing to join a team are predominantly selected for a team by ability. These teams are then registered in appropriate divisions of the league. We believe that if players are playing with, and against, other players of similar ability they will have the most satisfying experience. Our under 7's, 8's, 9's and 10's play in the Eastleigh District Mini League with the older children playing in the Tyro League or City of Southampton Youth League. We also have a thriving Girls section.
Children develop both physically and emotionally at different rates. Therefore, whilst unnecessary disruption to a team can be detrimental, on occasions, in order to ensure the most satisfying competitive experience for all, it will be beneficial to move players up or down between teams within an age group. These decisions will ultimately be made by the RTYFC professionals coaches, taking advice from the team coaches. Therefore we like to encourage the children to think of themselves as playing for Romsey Town Youth rather than an individual team. We are in effect one big blue and yellow striped family.
Our overriding aim as a club is to provide support and encouragement to all our young players, by promoting team work, fitness and fun. so they will continue their love of the game. Ultimately some may even continue beyond the Youth Club to join Romsey Town or even Southampton FC. Anything is possible and dreams can come true!
We hold an annual 6 a side tournament at Mountbatten school in June which helps raise funds for the club enabling our sign on fee to be very competitive in comparison to other teams.
Officials managers and coaches at the club work on a purely voluntary bases keeping our costs as low as possible. We thank those who help every week but always welcome volunteers who are willing to help.
